ABOUT
Originally from a northern steel-working family, Stephen Chance is based in London and Glaisdale.
His first novel, The Alum Maker’s Secret, a historical novel set in an alum-mining community in 18th-century England, was self-published. It was long-listed for a Bridport Prize – the Peggy Chapman-Andrews Novel Award.
His second novel, Feldman in Love, begins in 1950s New York. The composer Gavin Bryars said: "Beautifully written... completely seamless and fascinating."
A third novel is underway. Besides fiction, he has written for architectural magazines and lectured on music and architecture.
